Residential Electric Rates

MGE is serious about our responsibility to provide safe, reliable energy at reasonable rates. We work hard to control our costs, and we did not increase our rates in 2016. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin reviewed our recent rate request and granted a slight increase in residential electric rates effective Jan. 1, 2017.

With this increase, the average MGE residential electric customer using 550 kilowatt-hours per month will see a monthly increase of approximately $0.12.

The primary reason for the rate increases is continued reliability such as transmission infrastructure improvements.

MGE's electric rates still remain below the rate of inflation. MGE has held electric rates flat with no increase on average from 2013 through 2017. In comparison, the projection for the Consumer Price Index for the same period is an average of 1.4% per year.
