Wisconsin Focus on Energy

Empowers the businesses of Wisconsin to make smart energy decisions with enduring economic benefits through its numerous energy efficiency and renewable programs. Focus on Energy provides businesses with expert information, resources, and financial incentives to help businesses implement energy efficiency, upgrade equipment, and lower its environmental impact.

It has been a privilege to serve the energy needs of our community for more than 150 years. We're committed to building a more sustainable future. That's why we've created programs that can help you control your energy use and take advantage of evolving technologies.

Net-Zero Carbon Electricity by 2050

Your community energy company is targeting net-zero carbon electricity by 2050. By working together, we can reach our goal of a cleaner, more sustainable future.

MGE already has been on a path to reduce carbon dioxide emissions through our Energy 2030 framework. Since establishing our carbon reduction targets, we have said that if we can go further faster by working together with our customers, we will.

Shared Solar

MGE's Shared Solar program gives customers the option to add solar to their energy mix. Participants pay a one-time, up-front fee to reserve a portion of the electricity produced and, under the program expansion, will pay $0.109 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for up to 50% of their annual electric usage (dependent upon the amount purchased). This price stays with subscribing customers for 25 years, even if they move within the MGE electric service territory.

Green Power Tomorrow

You can purchase green power from renewable wind and solar resources in our region. The cost is just one cent per kilowatt-hour (kWh) and you can choose the level of green energy you would like to purchase.

Renewable Energy Rider

Our pilot program serves business customers with renewable energy resources. The Renewable Energy Rider (RER) can provide renewable energy to power all or a portion of your business. MGE is the first utility in Wisconsin to offer this opportunity.

Outdoor Security Lighting

Keep employees, customers, and tenants safe. Let MGE design, install, and maintain your outdoor security lighting for a low monthly fee.

On Demand Savings

The pilot program, initially launched in partnership with Focus on Energy, gives participating commercial customers the opportunity to monitor their energy use in real time to better understand their on-peak demand charges and to develop strategies to reduce their demand and cut energy costs.

Most power outages are caused by storms or accidents. Although these forces are beyond our control, we know that reliable utility service is very important to you and your business.

Power Outages

If the power goes out, follow these steps*:

  • Call MGE to report the outage at (608) 252-7111. We depend on our customers to report outages. This helps us efficiently identify and fix the issue.
  • Check our outage map, which is updated every 15 minutes. This is an easy way to see the location of an outage, the number of customers affected and the estimated restoration time.

*Note: If you are a gas-only customer of MGE, you will need to call your electric service provider to report an outage.

Your safety is our top priority. Following these tips will help keep you safe around electricity and natural gas.

Electric Safety

We rely on electricity for everything within our businesses; from lighting to powering electronics. While it's easy to take it for granted, keep in mind electricity can be dangerous.

While most electric safety rules are common sense, it's easy to get careless—especially if you're in a hurry. Be sure to follow these tips when dealing with electricity.

Natural Gas Safety

We use natural gas to heat our businesses and power equipment. MGE's underground pipes are designed to keep natural gas safely contained. However, if there is a leak, natural gas could create a dangerous situation.

To help keep you safe, MGE adds a rotten egg odor to the gas we deliver to you. This helps you detect leaks in and around your business. In addition to the smell, other warning signs of a leak include:

  • A hissing sound near a gas appliance, pipeline, or meter.
  • Unexplained dead vegetation.
  • A white cloud, mist, fog, or bubbles in standing water.

If you suspect a gas leak, leave the area or building immediately. DO NOT try to find the leak, light a match, or touch anything electrical such as a cell phone, lights, appliances, etc. Leave the building and call MGE's 24-hour emergency response line at (608) 252-1111 and warn others to stay away.

Impostor Scams

Beware of utility scams! MGE customers have reported fraudulent activity that is constantly evolving in the form of phone calls, text messages or in-person contact from impostors claiming to work for MGE.

Protect yourself and those around you by recognizing the signs of impostors.

Whenever you have questions or concerns about your service, we urge you to contact us right away.
