Electric Rates
In 2025, MGE worked collaboratively with community and customer representatives in our regulatory process to reach a unanimous rate settlement agreement that resolved all issues in our rate case. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) reviewed and approved this agreement, which established our electric and natural gas rates.
Effective Jan. 1, 2026, overall electric rates increased 0.15%. Impacts for customers vary by rate class. The primary drivers of the change are investments in local generation resources and ongoing grid modernization projects that help ensure reliable electric service for our community.
October Fuel Cost Credit
In July 2026, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) approved a $7.4 million credit to MGE electric customers. Actual fuel costs used for electric generation in 2025 were lower than MGE originally forecasted. This credit is part of a standard review the PSCW performs.
The one-time credit will be applied to October 2026 usage. Due to MGE's varying billing cycles, it will appear on some customers' October bill and for other customers, it will appear as a partial credit on their October and November bills.
This credit applies to all rate classes except for Green Power Tomorrow (GPT) and Shared Solar. If customers purchase 100% of their energy through GPT, for example, they do not receive the credit because those customers did not pay for the fuel for which we are providing the credit.
For customers who purchase less than 100% of their electricity through GPT and/or Shared Solar, they receive the credit on only that electricity not covered by GPT and/or Shared Solar. For example, if a customer purchases 60% green energy, then they will receive the credit on 40% of their kWh.
