A new solar option
Shared Solar, MGE's innovative solar option is sold out! Customers participating in the pilot program soon will receive the benefits of locally generated solar power without installing solar panels. Construction on the 500-kilowatt (kW) solar array on the roof of the City of Middleton Municipal Operations Center has begun and is on schedule to be completed in December.

Features of Shared Solar
The Shared Solar program was designed as a way for customers to add solar-generated electricity to their individual energy mix. Participants paid an up-front fee to reserve some of the electricity produced from the project. Once the solar array starts generating electricity, participants will pay a fixed rate of $0.12 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for up to 50 percent of their annual electric usage (dependent upon the amount purchased) for the next 25 years. This rate will stay with them even if they move within the MGE electric service territory, eligible customers will be notified on a first-come, first-served basis if capacity becomes available.
Supporting clean technology
The clean, renewable solar electricity generated through Shared Solar helps the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and manages fuel costs that can increase over time.
This partnership with customers and the City of Middleton also advances MGE's long-term framework, Energy 2030, under which we have set the goal of supplying 30% of our retail electric sales with renewable energy by 2030. Working together, we can reach our shared goal of a cleaner energy future.
Join the waiting list
While the program is fully subscribed, we continue to process applications for a waiting list. By joining the waiting list, you are helping us better understand the community's interest in building additional solar projects. And, in the event that participants drop out of the program or move out of the service territory, eligible customers will be notified on a first-come, first-served basis if capacity becomes available.
