Schedule a “Switch to Safety” Session for Your Classroom
Bring electrical safety to life for your fourth graders with MGE’s Switch to Safety program. Available to schools in MGE’s electric service area, this engaging 40-minute presentation is led by former teacher and MGE Electric Safety Education Consultant Flossie Baryenbruch.
Hazard Hamlet
At the heart of the program is Hazard Hamlet, an energized tabletop city that demonstrates real-world indoor and outdoor electrical safety situations. Through interactive scenarios, students learn how to recognize hazards and respond safely during electrical emergencies.
Using Hazard Hamlet, Flossie covers topics such as downed power lines, digging near underground utilities, using electrical appliances around water, flying kites near overhead lines, overloaded outlets and other common safety risks.
Take-home resources
Students and teachers receive take-home resources, including MGE’s updated Switch to Safety Activity Book and a Scratch and Sniff Gas Odor Safety Card.
Flossie presents throughout the school year. To schedule a session for your classroom, complete the online Switch to Safety request form.
