Trudy Produces a Full Clutch

Adult peregrine falcon with four eggs in the nest.
Trudy laid four eggs this year, which is considered a full clutch. We expect hatching to begin the week of May 11.

April 13, 2026—Downtown Madison soon will be home to peregrine falcon chicks again!

Trudy, the female peregrine falcon in the nesting box at MGE's Blount Generating Station, laid four eggs this season, which is considered a full clutch. Trudy's partner this year is an unbanded falcon. Melvin, who joined Trudy the previous 11 years, was spotted in February, before another falcon took his place.

The timing of the eggs' arrival is similar to previous years. Trudy laid the first egg on April 5, Easter Sunday. The second egg came two days later, in the evening of April 7. The third egg arrived in the early morning hours of April 10, and a fourth egg came the afternoon of April 12.

Peregrine falcons start incubating after their third egg. Historically at MGE, we have seen between 33 and 35 days to hatch after incubation starts. That means hatching should begin the week of May 11.

You can watch Trudy and her partner take turns incubating the eggs on the livestream MGE Falcon Cam!
