A New Falcon's in Town

falcon turning head to look behind it
Did you know? Falcons and other birds of prey can rotate their heads nearly 180 degrees to see behind them like Storm, pictured above.

February 26, 2026—Change is in the air at the falcon nesting box atop MGE's Blount Generating Station in downtown Madison.

Melvin, who had joined female falcon Trudy for the past 10 years, was spotted earlier this month—though it appears a new male falcon has since taken his place.

After reviewing images and video footage, our falcon experts have determined that the newcomer is "Storm," identified by the bird's ID band. Records show that Storm hatched in 2024 in the nesting box atop the Indiana Michigan Power Center building in Fort Wayne, Ind.
