Preparing Your Business for a Scheduled Outage

As part of MGE’s ongoing commitment to providing safe and reliable electric service, we periodically perform maintenance and replace equipment, which may require a temporary planned outage. A planned outage is scheduled with the customer in advance.

If MGE has notified you of a scheduled outage, the following steps can help your business prepare.

Before the outage begins:

  1. Plan ahead. Share the outage date and time with employees, tenants and others who may be affected.
  2. Shut down equipment safely. Follow manufacturer recommendations for computers, machinery, HVAC systems and other electrical equipment.
  3. Protect sensitive equipment. Turn off or unplug electronics that could be affected when power is interrupted or restored.
  4. Prepare essential systems. Identify equipment and processes that must remain available and make sure approved backup power systems are ready, if needed.
  5. Plan for power restoration. Before restarting equipment, check your facility and bring systems back online in a safe, orderly manner.

Onsite support

To help the planned outage go smoothly and safely, please arrange to have a qualified representative onsite who can disconnect your main and breakers before the outage work begins and reconnect them after the work is complete.

If you are unable to have someone onsite who can safely perform these steps, MGE can operate your main with your authorization. MGE will provide a consent form that must be completed in advance.
