Simpler Time-of-Use Schedule in 2027
Effective January 1, 2027, MGE customers on a Time-of-Use (TOU) rate will transition to a new rate structure.
Electricity costs vary throughout the day depending on periods of higher and lower demand on the grid. The new structure better aligns electric rates with periods of highest demand while providing a more streamlined set of pricing periods.
On-peak periods, when demand on the electric grid is highest, have the highest energy rates.
What does this change mean for my business?
The impact will vary by business, depending on unique energy-use patterns. Review your energy-use patterns to better understand what this change may mean for your business.
Businesses that can shift some energy use from on-peak periods may have opportunities to better manage energy costs. Examples may include:
- Electric vehicle (EV) charging
- Refrigeration pre-cooling
- Building automation controls
- Water heating
- Industrial process scheduling
- Energy storage
Every operation is different, and TOU rates may affect customers differently. MGE is committed to providing clear information and resources to help customers understand the change and prepare for the transition.
