Maintaining energy affordability is a top priority. MGE is sensitive to the impacts our costs have on customers, and we continue to address and manage affordability as we transition our energy supply to cost-effective, cleaner sources.

MGE is working to reduce carbon emissions as quickly and cost-effectively as we can, targeting net-zero carbon electricity by 2050. By working with our customers, we can reach our goal of a cleaner, more sustainable future.
We continue to invest in transitioning our energy supply mix by growing our use of cost-effective renewable energy, which is one of our decarbonization strategies. Along with significant growth in renewable generation, our customers are helping us work toward net-zero carbon electricity by participating in MGE’s clean energy programs and programs that help manage when and how they use energy.

MGE remains a national leader in electric reliability, ranking in the top four utilities nationwide for the fewest number of outages for more than 15 years. We continue to modernize our electric distribution grid to further enhance reliability for all of our customers by making our systems less susceptible to weather and other threats.
While MGE uses renewables first, we ensure other energy sources are available to keep our communities powered safely and without interruption. In addition to our investments in renewable generation and battery storage, highly efficient natural gas helps to enable our ongoing clean energy transition and to ensure continued reliability.
Natural gas complements renewable energy with reliable, dispatchable energy to ensure reliability for our customers as we continue to decarbonize our energy supply. Natural gas plants can be dispatched quickly and at times when it's more challenging for wind or solar generation, making it a reliable and cost-effective option to serve our customers as we grow our use of renewables and invest in battery storage.
