Summer 2026
Power Your Business with Community Solar from MGE
MGE is targeting net-zero carbon electricity by 2050. Growing our use of carbon-free energy generation, like solar, is a key strategy in achieving this goal—and businesses like yours can help, all while powering forward your own sustainability goals.
Shared Solar for Business
Shared Solar for Business is MGE’s first community solar program designed exclusively for business customers. It offers a flexible, easy way to support the continued development of local, carbon-free energy while advancing your own sustainability goals. No investment in infrastructure is required—MGE builds, owns and maintains the local solar generation.
When your business enrolls in Shared Solar for Business, you reserve shares of solar energy generated by a new, local MGE solar array for a five-year term, with renewal options available. Each share represents 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of the solar array’s output. Rather than owning and installing panels, you subscribe to a portion of the energy produced.
Based on the solar array's generation, MGE also retires the Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) associated with your shares on your behalf. These RECs can be applied to any of your facilities, and there’s no limit to the number of shares you can reserve.

Share Solar – Strix
Shared Solar - Strix is a community solar program for both MGE residential and business customers. You pay a one-time, up-front fee to reserve a portion of the electricity produced at MGE’s Strix Solar in Fitchburg. Then, you pay a monthly per- kWh charge for up to 50% of your annual electricity consumption. The monthly per-kWh charge remains fixed, even if you move within MGE's electric service territory, for the life of the six-year agreement.

What is community solar from MGE?
MGE's community solar programs offer eligible electric customers the opportunity to purchase shares of locally generated solar energy. Participants share the output of the solar installation. Community solar customers don't receive the solar energy directly—their participation supports the growth of renewable energy supplied to our grid, helping to create a more sustainable energy supply for all MGE electric customers.
Participants do not install or maintain their own systems, and no special equipment is required.
If you’re interested in participating in Shared Solar but are unsure which program is the best fit, we’re happy to discuss the options with you. Email our Business Customer Relations team at Business@mge.com or leave a message for an account manager at 608-252-7000 (Option 4, then Option 3).
