Help with Utility Bills

MGE is committed to connecting customers who are struggling to make ends meet with resources to help get back on track. We encourage schools to share the following information with families who may be having trouble paying their utility bills.

Energy Services, Inc. (ESI)

Parents should first see if they qualify for energy assistance and contact ESI. Income-qualified households may be eligible for assistance to help pay their energy bills. They can apply online at esi.help, in-person or by calling 1-800-506-5596.

Note: A new application is required for each program year, which runs from October 1 through September 30. Customers will need to reapply, even if they received help in previous years.

Payment Arrangements

If someone has fallen behind on their utility bill, a personalized payment arrangement can help them avoid late-payment fees and service disconnection. MGE will work with them and their unique circumstances to create a monthly payment plan before they get too far behind.

To set up a payment arrangement, call 608-252-7000. More information is available at mge.com/payment-arrangement

Back on Track

MGE's Back on Track offers financial assistance to customers with limited income or health-related energy needs who have a substantial past-due account balance. To be eligible, they must have received energy assistance benefits within the last two years. Certified life-sustaining equipment customers also are eligible.

For more information about Back on Track, contact MGE Customer Services at 608-252-7000.
