2027 Wisconsin KidWind Challenge

If you’re looking for ways to educate your students about renewable energy, consider participating in the Wisconsin KidWind Challenge! 

KidWind is a national nonprofit that helps students and teachers creatively explore the science, technology and implications of renewable energy, from the physics of wind turbine blade design to careers in clean energy.

Students in grades 3 through 12 from across the state design and build small-scale wind turbines and solar structures to measure power output. In 2027, the program is growing to include two regional challenges that serve as qualifying events for the Wisconsin State KidWind Challenge. You can register for the regional challenge that works best for your team: 

• Friday, February 5 - Southeastern WI Regional Challenge, Oak Creek, WI (held at the Milwaukee Area Technical College Oak Creek Campus)
• Thursday, February 11 - Northwestern WI Regional Challenge, Eau Claire, WI (held at Chippewa Valley Technical College Energy Education Center)

Educator workshops 

The Wisconsin KidWind Challenge also is open to educators through workshops. Teachers will review energy basics, design and test blades in a wind tunnel and preview ready-to-use lessons for integrating renewable energy into your teaching space. Learn more about the workshops.
