Help Students Learn About Electric Safety and Energy

MGE offers a range of energy education resources for schools. In addition to our Pedal Power bike and electric safety presentations for fourth graders, MGE can help educate students about energy in English, Spanish and Hmong. Here's a look at a few interactive options.

MGE's Pedal Power generator educational toolThe Pedal Power generator is an educational tool for loan to teachers to use. This hands-on, legs-on tool allows students to experience how much human power it requires to produce electricity for a variety of different loads including incandescent bulbs, LED bulbs, CFL bulbs, fans and even a blender!

Electric safety programming for your classroom
MGE’s Switch to Safety program for fourth grade students is available to area schools as a live or virtual program. The 30-minute session is led by Flossie Baryenbruch, a former teacher and MGE’s electric safety education consultant.

The program centerpiece is Hazard Hamlet, an energized tabletop city where both outdoor and indoor electric safety scenarios are demonstrated with instructions on how to respond safely during an electrical emergency. To schedule the program for your classroom, contact Flossie Baryenbruch directly at bflossie1@gmail.com or (608) 277-9323.

Certified arborists
Did you know MGE has certified arborists on staff to help customers determine proper planting locations for trees and to ensure proper trimming of trees near our facilities? They also work with area schools to help plant trees in celebration of events such as Arbor Day and Earth Day.

In spring 2022, MGE partnered with Badger Rock Middle School in Madison to plant trees on the school grounds (pictured below).
