Spring 2024

Energizing Your Community Resource Fair

Leah Samson, a Residential Energy Engineer at MGE, uses the Pedal Power bike to explain how energy can generate electricity as a student quickly pedals the Pedal Power bike.

Hosting a Community Resource Fair? We can help. MGE is teaming up with elementary schools across our service area to bring energy education to students and their families. Members of MGE’s Residential and Community Services team will be on hand to engage families in energy efficiency and conservation, sustainability and more.

Community resource fairs are energetic events where families gather to explore an array of resources, from wellness initiatives to energy-saving tips. Through hands-on activities and informative exhibits, families learn how small incremental changes at home can help them save energy.

The real stars, however, are your students! Their faces light up on our Pedal Power bike as they experience firsthand how their energy can help generate electricity or when they put on our virtual reality goggles and “climb” 500 feet to see the expanse at the top of a wind turbine. These interactive experiences educate and inspire our young learners to become intentional stewards of the environment.

Additionally, our partnership with Energy Services, Inc. (ESI), a local nonprofit that offers services and energy assistance, has been instrumental in connecting income-eligible families with financial resources to manage their energy bills. ESI brings experienced and welcoming staff who work confidentially on-site to assist families in applying for energy assistance.

We have recently participated in community resource fairs at Hawthorne, Leopold and Sandburg elementary schools and are eager to connect with more schools about energy education. If your school is hosting an upcoming community resource fair, we’d love to partner to help community members in your neighborhood manage their energy use. If you’d like to learn more, please contact us at eduservices@mge.com. We can’t wait to hear from you!
