Connecting with Local Students

Pedal Power generation tool at Madison east High school

We connect with thousands of students every year through various programs, events and other activities, both inside and outside the classroom.

As part of our partnerships with area schools and community organizations, MGE regularly hosts groups of students from local programs. Here’s a look at some of the students who joined us this summer.

Students in the Upward Bound math and science program at Madison East High School visited our downtown Madison office for a hands-on educational experience.

Nearly 30 students learned about wind energy and built their own model wind turbines. They also had some fun with our Pedal Power display learning how much energy it takes to power different types of light bulbs, to charge a cell phone and even to get a blender to make a milkshake.

MGE also welcomed about 40 area middle school students this summer for STEAM Camp. STEAM Camp is a weeklong event held at sites across Madison that engages students in educational pathways that lead to careers in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).

STEAM Camp participants discuss electric vehicles

MGE employees helped STEAM Camp participants learn:
  • How MGE is growing our use of renewable energy.
  • How we keep the lights on and the gas flowing for our customers.
  • About electric vehicles and MGE’s work to electrify transportation.
  • About STEAM careers in the utility industry.

Strang Architects of Madison partners with the Urban League of Greater Madison to bring STEAM Camp to MGE and other local organizations each year.
