MGE offers programs and resources for customers who are considering an EV or have already made the decision to drive electric. Compare gas to electric and learn about options for charging at home and for boosting your fuel savings.

Explore My EV

MGE’s Explore My EV tool helps you compare vehicles, costs and estimate potential fuel savings. Explore My EV takes into consideration many factors, such as your daily commute, electricity costs, up-front vehicle costs, maintenance costs and financial incentives, to create an easy-to-understand financial comparison.

To get started, visit Explore My EV and enter your address, daily miles traveled, how much you want to spend and choose an electric vehicle to compare. You will see the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) and driving range for all vehicles in your price range. You also can filter by EV type (all-electric or plug-in hybrid), body style and make.

Preferred Dealership Network

MGE has partnered with local dealerships to help car shoppers who are considering an EV. MGE Dealership Network members are knowledgeable about MGE EV programs and resources. In addition to expertise on models, trim options, driving range and financing, dealerships can help future EV drivers determine the best charging solution for their new EV.

Public Charging Network

MGE operates a network of more than 50 public charging stations in the Madison area which includes five DC Fast Chargers. The stations are powered by 100% renewable energy generated by wind farms in Wisconsin and Iowa. Our Level 2 stations are $0.18 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) while the DC Fast Charge station is $0.34 per kWh.

In addition, EV drivers now have a new option for convenient and fast charging in downtown Madison. Located at the intersection of East Washington Avenue and South Livingston Street, MGE's fast charging hub features eight fast-charger stalls from 50kW to 350kW and eight Tesla Superchargers.

Time-of-Use Rates

EV drivers can save up to 40% on home charging costs by shifting vehicle charging and other electricity use to nights and weekends!

Customers who sign up for MGE's Time-of-Use rate receive discounted rates for electricity used during off-peak hours. It's the time of day when electricity use is low. In exchange, customers pay more for electricity used during on-peak hours. By shifting the majority of your electricity use—for your EV as well as your entire household—to nights and weekends, you could see significant savings. Depending on your individual usage, the savings could really add up!
