Water Heating Controls

You can cut your heating costs by as much as 10% by using automatic hot water reset and boiler cutout controls. You can achieve a payback in one to three years.

Customer benefits

  • Reduced heat loss through pipes.
  • Increased boiler efficiency.
  • Elimination of uncomfortable (and expensive) overheating.
  • Boiler shutoff when it's not needed.

Why it works

The water temperature required to heat your building varies with outdoor temperature. When it is very cold, the heating water temperature needs to be hot. As it warms up outside, the heating water temperature can be reduced. Most building operators do not manually adjust their temperature controls often enough to maximize system efficiency.

If you have a hot water boiler or a steam boiler with a steam-to-hot-water heat exchanger, automatic hot water reset and boiler cutout controls automatically set your heating requirements and save energy.

For example

If the outside air is 0°F, your supply water may need to be heated to 180°F. But when the outside temperature rises to 40°F, that water supply only needs to be heated to 140°F. And when the outside temperature is 70°F, no heating is required at all.

Automatic control types

Automatic controls adjust for varying temperatures and bring you a degree of savings for every degree the outside temperature rises. A reset controller automatically measures the outside air and adjusts your hot water temperature accordingly. A cutout control turns off the heating system when the outside air reaches a preset temperature.

You're in control

This heating season, automatically turn down boiler heat and turn up savings with automatic hot water reset and boiler cutout controls. Call your heating contractor to find out what kind of reset and cutout controls are right for your needs.
