In late 2017, MGE's nearly 450 solar panels on the roof of its main office in Madison became operational. They're capable of supplying almost 10% of the electricity used in the building.

This voluntary statewide program evaluates participating companies on their sustainable actions in nine primary areas: energy, climate change, water, waste, transportation, supply chain, community outreach, workforce and governance. Based on this evaluation, companies are placed in one of three categories. The top 20% of the companies achieve the highest-ranking category—the Green Master distinction. Nearly 200 Wisconsin businesses currently participate in the Green Masters Program.

MGE was the first utility to be recognized as a Green Master.

"Participating in Green Masters provides an annual assessment that keeps us focused on continuous improvement—whether working with our customers toward a cleaner energy future or working with our employees on daily operations," said Jeff Jaeckels, Director - Safety and Environmental Affairs.

The Green Masters Program is an objective, points-based recognition program that enables Wisconsin companies to join like-minded businesses that are committed to sustainability. The program recognizes sustainability leaders and encourages continuous improvement.
