Rate Changes for 2017

Park Street Gas

The natural gas rate increase covers infrastructure improvements that help maintain a safe and reliable system.

We take seriously our responsibility to provide safe, reliable energy at reasonable rates. MGE did not increase electric and gas rates in 2016.

However, we do have some changes for 2017. As with every rate change, the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin reviews our rate request and listens to customers’ suggestions and proposals. Following this process, the Commission sets our electric and gas rates.

The approved electric rate reflects a decrease of 0.79% in overall rates for 2017. Your actual bill depends on your rate classification and usage. Get more information here.

The approved natural gas distribution and gas supply service rates reflect an overall increase of about 1.91% across all customers. This increase covers infrastructure improvements to maintain a safe and reliable system. Your actual bill depends on your rate classification and usage. Get more information here.

The natural gas bill has two separate parts:

  • The Distribution Service includes a daily fixed charge called the System Connection and Customer Service Charge and a per-therm charge called the Distribution Service Charge. They cover the costs to provide access to basic service, maintain the gas system and deliver gas to homes and businesses.
  • The Gas Supply Service charges cover the commodity costs, which fluctuate monthly with natural gas market prices and are passed through to you without markup.
