First Responder Training

First Responder Training

We Are Committed to the Safety of our Communities

MGE works with local emergency officials to respond to incidents involving natural gas pipelines. We have employees on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our employees are specially trained to operate utility equipment and help make the situation safe.

We provide free resources such as in-person training seminars and online education to ensure that first responders have the necessary information to protect themselves and the public in an event of a natural gas emergency.

In-Person Seminar

Our in-person training seminar can be scheduled to meet the needs of the department. This session provides an open forum for questions and covers:

  • Hazards of natural gas and carbon monoxide.
  • Clear definition of what constitutes a natural gas emergency.
  • Safety procedures while working around natural gas for firefighters and civilians at the location.
  • Explanation of how MGE can assist you during an emergency.

To schedule a training, please call 608-252-7154.

Interactive Online Training

Through our partnership with the Wisconsin Utilities Association, we also offer an online training program designed to help emergency responders learn how to respond to natural gas and electric emergencies. This program includes an assessment to test the comprehension of the material presented and a certificate upon completion.
