MGE’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

At Madison Gas and Electric (MGE), we value diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and are committed to advancing these principles in our workplace and through our service to our customers and broader community. We work to ensure that all our employees and customers experience MGE as your community energy company. In addition to safety, reliability and sustainability, equity and engagement are among our core values.

As our community grows and becomes more diverse, MGE is evolving to better reflect our changing community. We work to provide a welcoming environment where all our employees feel included, supported, valued and respected.

Our management and employees embrace a philosophy of continuous improvement to fulfill our commitment in these areas. Our ongoing efforts include the following:

  • Our employee-led DEI Steering Team, with representation from various parts of the company, works to engage employees and to identify opportunities and strategies for strengthening our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Our Development and Training team provides training and resources to all employees to help the organization advance our objectives in ensuring an inclusive and respectful work environment. We work to build upon a culture of inclusive leadership through which all employees are supported and given the guidance and tools to continue to develop to achieve their full potential.
  • We leverage relationships with community stakeholders and organizations to introduce utility-related careers and create visibility around opportunities at MGE as part of our efforts to recruit diverse talent who can help us better serve our multicultural customer base and evolving community.
  • We partner with youth organizations and others across our community to engage students in the utility industry and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) careers to create a pipeline as part of our next generation of utility workers. We host students from elementary to postsecondary institutions for events and internships. These events, programs and partnerships help to introduce these careers to students with backgrounds typically underrepresented in the utility industry.
  • We support numerous nonprofit organizations through our charitable efforts to help ensure our broader community is an inclusive, welcoming community for all and work to engage employees in these efforts.

Our commitment to transparency and disclosure
As part of our commitment to transparency and disclosure, we are providing MGE’s EEO-1 data, which serves as a snapshot in time of the organization’s workforce demographic data provided annually to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The power of working together
We believe our collective diversity makes us stronger, helps us better serve customers and helps us achieve our goals—one of which is to better reflect the communities we are privileged to serve.
