Outage Update

  • MGE to continue to make repairs around-the-clock until service is restored to all customers.
  • Storm impacted nearly 10,000 customers.
  • Service restored to 93% of customers in less than 24 hours.
  • MGE expects full restoration tomorrow morning.
  • The storm resulted in 100 separate outage incidents—more than half of those outages affecting single customers.

MGE has restored power to approximately 93% of the total 9,770 customers who lost service following the storm that came through the Madison area Thursday night. MGE will have crews working around-the-clock until service is restored to all customers.

The storm resulted in 100 separate outage incidents—more than half of those are outages affecting single customers. We are working hard to restore all customers by the end of Friday; however some outages could go into Saturday. Customers should prepare for this possibility.

MGE prioritizes restoration efforts by targeting those outage locations that can get the most customers back in service quickly. The storm's strong winds resulted in damaged utility poles, downed trees and power lines. Widespread damage of this type takes significant time and resources to assess damage, clear debris and make repairs.

Since Thursday night, MGE has rotated crews for damage assessment and service restoration to ensure continuity of restoration efforts. In addition, some contractor electric crews and contractor tree-trimming crews are assisting MGE's restoration efforts.
