Summer STEAM and REACH Camps Go Virtual

Dozens of area middle school students participated in a week-long virtual Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) camp focused on learning about STEAM-related career paths. The half-day session at MGE covered solar energy basics, utility industry basics and MGE’s Net-Zero Carbon Electricity by 2050 goal.

The program is coordinated by Strang Architects and the Urban League of Greater Madison. Students were recruited through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County, Ho Chunk Nation, Urban League of Greater Madison and Girl Scouts of Wisconsin – Badgerland Council. MGE was one of several local organizations to participate in the annual camp.

MGE also participated virtually in the Urban League of Greater Madison's REACH (Rise to Educational Achievement and Career Heights) summer program. REACH is a six-week internship program for students in grades 8 and 9.

The program offers students the opportunity to explore different careers, interact with positive role models, experience a workplace environment and develop good work habits, skills and confidence. The students engaged virtually in a total of at least 68 hours of programming through four daily sessions each week. MGE appreciates the opportunity to introduce the next generation to career paths in the utility industry.
