MGE Sets Net-Zero Goal
In May, MGE announced a bold and ambitious goal – net-zero carbon electricity for customers by 2050.
MGE already has been on a path to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, targeting carbon reductions of at least 40% by 2030 and at least 80% by 2050 from 2005 levels. The company's net-zero by 2050 goal is based on the latest climate science and reflects the company's vision for the community.
"Our net-zero carbon goal is aggressive, and it will require technologies not yet commercially available or cost-effective, but it is where we need to be," MGE CEO Jeff Keebler said.
MGE's key strategies for achieving deep decarbonization include decarbonizing electric generation, using energy efficiently and electrifying transportation.
MGE's mission continues to be safe, reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity for all customers. Through the application of science and investment in the technologies of today and tomorrow, the company will continue to fulfill its commitment to the community.
