Spring 2019

MGE Earth Day Fun Book and Video Contest

Before you know it, spring will be here and so will the 49th anniversary of Earth Day! So, why not get your free classroom sets of MGE’s Earth Day Every Day Fun Book. The Fun Book is a 21-page, full-color large format book geared for grades 3-8. The book features attractive, local content, fun graphics and activities for students on a variety of topics, including environmental action teams in local schools, animal conservation, sustainability education, renewable energy, water resources, electric vehicles, climate change, history of Earth Day and more.

Earth Day is celebrated every April 22. It was started in 1970 by then-Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson to bring attention to the environment and to encourage citizens to protect it. MGE has published the Earth Day Every Day Fun Book for the last 10 years to encourage students to learn about important environmental issues and to take positive actions to improve the planet.

In addition to publishing the Earth Day, Every Day Fun Book, MGE also is conducting an Earth Day Video Contest. A first-place, $500 prize will be awarded at both the elementary and middle school level. Two $50 prizes also will be awarded at both levels. Students can submit individual or team entries that are 3-5 minutes in length. You can find helpful video production hints at the MGE website listed below. Last year’s contest drew more than 50 creative entries from elementary and middle school students. To order Earth Day Fun Books and for contest rules and tips, visit mge.com/earthday/book or call (608) 252-7091.

Fun Books will be delivered to your school the first week of April. The deadline to enter the video contest is May 3, 2019.
