Local School District Partnering with MGE to Go Solar
The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District (MCPASD) is partnering with MGE to provide solar energy for the school district. MGE is building a 5-megawatt (MW) solar array, known as Morey Field Solar, at the Middleton Municipal Airport. A 1 MW share of the array will provide energy to the school district. A 0.5 MW share will serve the City of Middleton and 3.5 MW will serve participants in MGE's Shared Solar program. Shared Solar
offers MGE residential and business electric customers the opportunity to purchase up to half of their annual electricity use from the project. The program's share of the array will generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of about 1,100 households. It is expected to be operational later this year.
Officials from the MCPASD, the City of Middleton and MGE were on hand last fall for a groundbreaking event. "The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District has a long and proud tradition of supporting sustainable, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly initiatives," said MCPASD Superintendent Dr. Dana Monogue. "This partnership with MGE and the City of Middleton is another example. We are also excited about the potential in millions of dollars in energy savings over the next 30 years."
This partnership is an excellent example of how MGE, our customers, including a local school district and municipality are working together to advance shared sustainability goals.
