Recycling

Recycling

As your community energy company, we are committed to reducing and reusing as many products as possible. Employees take seriously their responsibility to play an active role in the process. We make recycling and proper waste disposal part of our daily routine—whether we are in the office or on a job site. In 2015, MGE employees recycled 134 tons of materials through our all-in-one recycling method. In addition, MGE recycled 545 tons of metals and scrap materials left over from fieldwork, 56 tons of wood pallets and 960 pounds of alkaline batteries.

Materials we recycle include:

  • Batteries
  • Thermostats and other mercury-containing devices
  • Chemicals
  • Aerosol cans
  • Steel, iron, copper
  • Glass
  • Cell phones

RecycleFluorescent, compact fluorescent (CFL), high-pressure sodium or metal halide bulbs, visit a retailer that sells these products. The City of Madison requires stores that sell these bulbs to also recycle them. Another option is to take old bulbs to a lamp recycling company. Get a list of drop-off locations.
