While energy efficiency has only become a top-of-mind issue for many organizations in recent years, PKK Lighting has been helping companies "go green" since long before there was a catchphrase to describe it! "We installed our first energy-efficient lightbulb in 1973; I believe it was at the old Hub clothing store on the Square," said Joanne Driscoll, owner of PKK Lighting. "And we've been installing motion sensor lighting systems since way before they were the 'in' thing to do."

In the last four decades, PKK Lighting has helped thousands of businesses evaluate their lighting systems and install more affordable, energy-efficient options. And its CJD & SDD division collects and recycles waste lamps, ballasts and mercury devices to ensure no lighting-related equipment ends up in a landfill. With a history like that, it's no surprise that PKK Lighting supports the Green Power Tomorrow program.

"Our entire business is dedicated to helping our customers make the best possible lighting choices in terms of cost and energy efficiency," said Driscoll. "It just makes sense to support renewable energy through the Green Power Tomorrow program."

In addition to supporting renewable energy, PKK Lighting, has—naturally!—energy-efficient lighting throughout its own facility and uses recycled products whenever possible. The company is always on the lookout for better energy-saving lighting options and does extensive research to match the best new technologies to its customers' needs. "Whenever there's a new product available, we test it quite intensely to make sure it can deliver on its claims," said Driscoll. "We're doing a lot with LED lately, especially in parking lots and fluorescent-lighted and neon signs."

Driscoll is excited that energy efficiency has become more common for both consumers and businesses. "People almost take it for granted that you'll have energy-efficient features in new construction, and our programs prove that it makes sense for retrofits too. There are so many ways to improve the energy efficiency of your business and we're happy to support an excellent one: Green Power Tomorrow."
