MGE "Celebrate Earth Day Everyday" 2017 Video Contest

Contest Rules

Purpose

Promote Earth Day by encouraging students to create a 1 to 5 minute video that motivates others to take personal action benefiting the environment.

Goal

Students can work individually or in teams to create a 1 to 5 minute video and submit it to MGE for judging and competition for cash prizes (see below).

Eligibility

The contest is open to all students in grades 4-5 and 6-8. A first place winning entry will be selected for elementary level (grades 4-5) and for middle school level (grades 6-8) with two runner ups selected for both elementary and middle school levels. Elementary and middle grade first place winning entries will receive a party for their class with a value of up to $500. The parties can be held at the Madison Children's Museum, Aldo Leopold Nature Center or your school. Runner ups will receive $50 for their classroom. All students who participate in the contest will receive an Earth Day T-shirt. To enter, your school must be an MGE gas and/or electric customer.

By accepting a prize, contest winners agree their name and likeness can be used for educational and promotional purposes at MGE's discretion.

Judging

A panel of MGE judges will select the winning videos based on the following criteria.

Criteria:

  1. Originality: Will the viewer want to watch the video multiple times? Is this a new idea? A new idea based on an older theme? Did the video use humor, parody or other artistic convention to convey the message. Is the video clear and focused? Does the video provide a compelling reason to celebrate Earth Day? (25 points)
  2. Creativity: Does the video use a variety of graphics, music, voice, narrative, dance, video, print, still images and scripting in the video? ( 25 points)
  3. Accuracy of Information: Does the video contain accurate facts and data to convey and support the call to action, to support a position or to persuade the viewer. Is technical information included? (25 points)
  4. Practicality: Is the action discussed in the video practical and easily replicated by others? (25 points)

Contest Dates:

Deadline to receive entries is no later than May 1, 2017.

Winning videos will be posted to the MGE Facebook page and mge.com website on May 8, 2017.

How to enter

  • Complete your video and submit it per the instructions below.
  • Complete the form on the contest entry page: mge.com/earthday/entry

How to send us your video entry

YouTube

  1. With your parent's or teacher's permission, upload your video entry to YouTube.
  2. Go to mge.com/earthday/entry and complete the video entry upload form. Be sure to paste the YouTube video link into the MGE entry form and then send to us.
  3. You will receive a confirmation email from MGE.

Dropbox

  1. With your parent's permission, upload your video entry to Dropbox.
  2. While in Dropbox, right click on the file and click "Share Link."
  3. Copy the link from the browsers address bar.
  4. Go to mge.com/earthday/entry and complete the video entry upload form. Be sure to paste the Dropbox video link into the MGE entry form and then send to us.
  5. You will receive a confirmation email from MGE.

MGE reserves the right to use and publish video contest entries.
