MGE Lowers Customers’ Bills Due to Lower Fuel Costs

The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) has approved a fuel credit for MGE electric customers. The one-time credit of $0.05574 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) will be based on September 2016 electric usage and credited on September and/or October bills.

This credit is due to a change in MGE’s variable fuel costs for electric generation and purchased power. Those fuel costs have steadily decreased since MGE originally forecast costs.

Fuel costs are modified annually. MGE’s fuel credit is a “true up” under the PSCW’s fuel rules—the original costs projections for fuel versus actual costs.

This credit is in addition to the $0.00256 per kWh credit customers have been getting on their monthly bill since September 2015 and will continue through the end of 2016.

Note to Green Power Tomorrow (GPT) customers, if you purchase 100% of your electricity through GPT, you will not receive the credit because you did not pay for the fuel and purchased power covered by this credit. If you purchase less than 100% of your electricity through GPT, you will receive the credit on only that electricity not covered by GPT. For example, if you purchase 60% green energy, then you will receive the credit on 40% of your kWh.
