New Gas Service Process

Step 1. Submit Estimate Request: Customer either mails back the included postcard, or submits a request online, to have MGE schedule a site visit with them to discuss natural gas options.

Step 2. Site Visit: MGE will discuss installation options and assist filling out a new service application. Information on appliances loads may also be collected during this time.

Step 3. Submit Application: Customer submits the completed service application to MGE for processing.

Step 4. New Service Design: MGE will design a service pipe based on the customers desired location and gas appliance load information.

Step 5. Estimate and Sketch Mailed: Once design is completed, a sketch is mailed back to the customer for approval. If the service is over 65', there will be a cost estimate mailed back as well.

Step 6. Customer Approval: Customer reviews the installation sketch and gives final approval. This initiates the service construction process.

Step 7. Service Installation: MGE installs new gas service pipe to customer approved location.

Step 8. Invoice Mailed (if applicable): If over 65' of gas service pipe is installed, the remaining footage will be billed to the customer.

Step 9. Schedule Conversions and Meter Install: Customer schedules with appliance contractor to convert appliances to natural gas and with MGE to install the meter. All appliances must be converted to natural gas before a meter can be installed. Typically, the appliance conversion and meter install should occur the same day.

Step 10. Equipment Conversions: Customer appliance contractor makes the necessary changes to convert existing appliances to natural gas.

Step 11. Gas Meter Installed: MGE installs gas meter. This completes the new gas service process.
