Energy 2030 framework

At MGE, we launched unprecedented community engagement last year. We asked our customers to think about the issues surrounding providing electricity to our community. Hundreds of our customers participated in what we called Community Energy Conversations. More of you shared comments with us online.

We also collaborated and continue to do so with representatives from numerous community stakeholder groups such as the Citizens Utility Board and Clean Wisconsin, both considered energy experts.

From these conversations and collaborations, we announced our Energy 2030 framework.

In building tomorrow's community energy company, MGE will:

  • Transition toward supplying 30% of retail energy sales with renewable resources by 2030. As a milestone goal, we will supply 25% of retail energy sales with renewable resources by 2025.
  • Work with customers to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 40% from 2005 levels by 2030.
  • Increase engagement around energy efficiency and conservation to reduce our community's overall energy and peak electric use to reduce long-term costs for everyone.
  • Create a more dynamic, integrated electric grid that supports and integrates new technology.
  • Develop and test new products and services to offer customers more control over their energy use.
  • Deepen our engagement with customers to chart our next steps and determine over time, as technologies evolve, how best to meet customer needs and accomplish our long-term goals.

Safety, reliability, affordability—and sustainability—are our top priorities. We know our customers share these goals. These goals are reflected in our Energy 2030 framework.

As we move forward with our long-term energy framework, it may evolve as customer preferences, technology, markets and regulatory requirements change with time. But what won’t change is MGE's commitment to remaining engaged with our customers to explore new ideas and solutions to the changing nature of the electric and gas utility of the future.
