People power at MGE

This summer, a dozen area middle school students participating in the Pre-college Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence (PEOPLE) power program visited MGE. They learned firsthand how a variety of skilled and professional jobs depend on science, technology, engineering and math-based skills to operate the electric and gas system. Students also learned how MGE is studying electric vehicle use, electric vehicle charging and solar electric photovoltaic system performance.

PEOPLE power is a college preparatory program started at the UW-Madison in 1999. It helps students successfully transition from middle school to high school and from high school to college. Approximately 1,300 students participate in the PEOPLE program ranging from second grade through undergraduate college level. It started in 1999 with 66 eager ninth-graders from Milwaukee public high schools who are now completing college degrees and entering the workforce. The PEOPLE program has admitted 359 students to the UW-Madison under a scholarship program. For more information about the PEOPLE program, visit http://peopleprogram.wisc.edu.
