Don't reveal personal information

Madison, Wis., July 10, 2012—MGE has become aware of a utility bill credit scam that may affect our customers. The scam is being spread via phone, Twitter and text. Fliers are being circulated door-to-door in some areas. It claims that President Obama or the federal government will pay your utility bill.

The scammers are attempting to obtain personal information such as social security numbers and bank account numbers, and in exchange, provide a false Federal Reserve Bank routing number for customers to use to pay their bill online or by phone.

Please do not provide them any personal information if you receive a call, email or text. This offer is false. There is no money. It may appear that you have paid your bill, but in fact you have not.
