Payment Options

Automatic payment (EFT)

Electronic funds transfer from your checking or savings account. Sign up.

Check payment

MGE will process your check payment from your checking account electronically, potentially as soon as the same day we receive your check.

Credit/Debit Card payment

  • Available only by phone at 1-800-526-5995
  • Processing fee of $5.95 per transaction
  • Be sure to know
    1. MGE account number
    2. Credit/debit card number
    3. Billing zip code of your card
    4. Amount of payment

Online payment

View and pay your MGE energy bill online through CheckFree.

Postal mail

Pay in person

Make your bill payments at MGE's Madison office or MGE locations in Elroy, Prairie du Chien, or Viroqua. Or pay at several retail outlets where a $1.00 per transaction fee applies.

Pay by phone

Call 1-800-526-5995 and pay using:

  • Electronic check for a handling fee of $5.95.
  • Credit card (maximum $600.00 payment per transaction) for a handling fee of $5.95.

Payment Drop Box

Night Depository
Adjacent to visitor parking lot

After business hours, drop your payment into the night box. Payments will be credited the next business day.

Daytime Box
Located in lobby entrance

Avoid lines inside, place payment into drop box in lobby entrance. Payments will be credited on the same day if received by 1:00 PM. All others credited next business day.

Paperless billing

Just view, or view and pay your MGE bill online through CheckFree.

Budget Payment Plan

Our Residential Customers* can budget for winter heating or summer cooling costs by spreading them over 12 months.

Deferred payment agreement

Our residential customers can work with us to pay any past-due bills in separate installments. Once established on this plan, you are also eligible for the Budget Payment Plan.
