Power when needed; power tomorrow
Power Control: A way you can help when it's needed most
What is Power Control? It's a voluntary program that allows MGE to shut off the central air conditioners (A/C) of participating customers if there is a power emergency. MGE pays $8 for each hour the A/C is shut off. (First-time sign-ups can choose a $25 bill credit or energy-saving gift.)
How it works. When you sign up, a small electronic device is installed that can turn off your A/C unit remotely if needed, more likely on a very hot weekday between noon and 8 p.m.
Why MGE offers Power Control. Central air conditioners account for more electricity use during high-demand periods than any other appliance.
Power Control maintains emergency power reserves at a lower cost than building new generators. These savings benefit all customers. For more information or to sign up for Power Control, call (608) 252-7117. Program details are also at mge.com/powercontrol.

Now you can purchase clean, renewable electricity and offset the carbon emissions that are generated by your electricity use.
For $6 extra per month, the average MGE residential customer using 600 kilowatt-hours per month can buy enough green power to offset 100% of their electricity-generated carbon dioxide emissions.
Customers in our original green pricing program also qualify for this new lower rate.
Buy green power for your home. You can select the level of renewable, green energy you would like. You will be billed the additional amount each month.
