We can work together to build a greener, cleaner tomorrow

We can work together to build a greener, cleaner tomorrow.

There is no escaping our need for energy. However, by working together we can conserve energy and make every day an earth day when we:

  • Appreciate that energy saved is the cleanest energy of all. Conserve. Recycle. Adopt new ways to make our daily lifestyles more energy efficient and kinder to the environment.

  • Follow these five efficiency actions:

    • Control your thermostat. Install a programmable unit.

    • Use compact fluorescents – which are three times more efficient than incandescents.

    • Use cold water to wash your laundry.

    • Turn off the juice when not in use. Don't leave lights, TVs, stereos and computers running when not in use.

    • Look for the ENERGY STAR® label when you buy or replace appliances.

  • Check out energy resources at your local library. This includes MGE's portable energy meters. They can help you find the big energy users around your home.

  • Track your energy use online by using your own MGE account information at mge.com.

  • Join an Environmental Action (EnAct) team in your community (see enactwi.org).

  • Replace key electric household appliances with natural gas units. If your clothes dryer or water heater run on electricity, switching to natural gas units will reduce air pollution and lower your energy bill.
