Reasons to recycle: It's important, easy and free

Please recycle your mercury-containing thermostat!

Help protect our environment when it's time to install a new thermostat in your home. Find out if your old thermostat contains mercury. If it does, don't throw it out, as mercury can be released and harm the environment.

Instead, tap into one of the free recycling services offered by MGE and other organizations. You'll make an earth-friendly difference:

• Bring it to MGE. Give your old thermostat to your MGE service technician or bring your old thermostat to our offices at 133 S. Blair St. during business hours. MGE will make sure your thermostat is recycled and reused for other important purposes.

• Take it to participating local businesses. Contact Wisconsin DNR for more information on mercury-containing thermostats and a list of contractors participating in the state's recycling program. Call (608) 266-2621 or visit http://dnr.wi.gov/org/caer/cea/mercury/thermostat.
