Working together to save energy
Steps to help power a greener tomorrow
We all can save energy. Power Tomorrow™ is a program that calls us to take the next step toward a greater energy efficiency commitment in our lives. Start by finding which part of your home or apartment uses the most energy.
Understand your energy use patterns. Compare your home heating rating to similar Madison-area homes. When you know what your use patterns are for natural gas and electricity, you can target ways to save. Find out online at mge.com/myaccount.
Check out a portable energy meter from your local library to measure how much electricity your plug-in appliances and equipment use.
Do the easy, low-cost measures first
• Control your thermostat. Lower your thermostat at night and when you're away. Replace an old unit with a programmable thermostat.
• Convert to energy-efficient lighting. Replace at least your five most-used incandescent lightbulbs with compact fluorescents.
• Turn off the juice when not in use. Don't keep your TV, lights and other equipment on when no one needs them.
• Wash your laundry in cold water. Today's detergents and cold-water settings work well together.
• Look for the ENERGY STAR® label when buying appliances. You'll save energy and money, and you'll keep on saving over time.
