Monthly Average Calculation

To determine the average monthly energy use for a meter, the following steps are taken:

  • Sum the total energy used for every billing period during the last 12 months of service.
  • Divide total energy used by the total number of days to determine average daily energy use.
  • Multiply the average daily energy use by 30.4 (average number of days per month).

For example, if an electric meter shows 5550 kWh used over 370 days of billing then the following calculation is used:

5550 kWh
370 days
=
15 kWh/day
X
30.4
=
456 kWh/month

This same calculation is used to determine average monthly cost.
