Caring Home Makeover Overview
- Helping others in need

Building on the success of ABC's hit show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,"
- WKOW-27,
- MGE, and
- NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry Madison Chapter)
teamed up to provide a Caring Home Makeover to a deserving family in the greater-Madison area. Jim and Mary Pertzborn have lived in their eastside home for 41 years. They had 16 children, 14 of which are living. Five are still living at home, along with their dog Sugar Bear.
Jim and Mary were chosen for this exciting award based on:
- Financial need,
- Special life circumstance,
- Condition of the home, and
- Availability of materials and contractors.
The Selection Committee consisted of representatives from:
- Centro-Hispano of Dane County
- Urban League of Greater Madison
- United Refugee Services of Wisconsin
- Project Home, Inc.
Construction on the Pertzborn home started in late October and concluded December 16th.
