MGE Clean Air Actions

It all adds up to cleaner air.

Ground-level ozone, also called smog, could become a significant problem in Dane County. See www.cleanairdane.org for more details. As a Dane County Clean Air Coalition partner, MGE will do our part to prevent ozone pollution.

Ozone season actions
During ozone season (May 1 through Sept. 30), MGE will take steps to reduce ground-level ozone by adopting these employer actions as feasible (Employer Action Plan [PDF -155 KB]). We'll encourage other businesses to take these actions too.

Clean Air Action Days
When weather and air-quality data indicate that ground-level ozone may reach higher levels, Dane County will declare a Clean Air Action Day. Residents, businesses and public institutions are asked to do their part for cleaner air on these action days.

MGE's commitments
Since transportation is the largest contributor of ozone pollution in Dane County, MGE will actively encourage its employees to carpool, bus, bike or walk to work on Clean Air Action Days. In addition, we will take a series of measures to reduce emissions.

Everyone can help

Individuals - Please review and follow the Resident Action Plan [PDF - 479 KB]. Look for additional ways to reduce your energy consumption at Energy-Saving Tips.

Businesses - Adopt strategies to reduce summer air pollution by limiting volatile organic compounds and NOx emissions—the two pollutants that create ozone. Follow the suggestions in the Employer Action Plan [PDF - 155 KB]. Look for additional ways to reduce your energy consumption at Energy-Saving Tips.

For MGE employees only
If you bike, walk, bus or carpool to work on Clean Air Action Days, MGE will treat you to a free lunch. See the company bulletin for more details.
