Schools and Education
The Madison Metropolitan School District serves about 25,000 students in 46 schools, including 30 elementary schools (grades K-5), 11 middle schools (6-8), four comprehensive high schools and one alternative high school. The district also has early childhood programs and alternative programs at the secondary level (6-12).
Expansion Management Magazine, a national business journal, annually ranks Madison among 1% of school districts in the nation, based primarily on graduation rates and college board results.
Madison is one of the few districts in the country to have schools at the elementary, middle and high school levels rated as National Schools of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.
Post Secondary
The University of Wisconsin campus is a significant presence in Madison. Home of the Big Ten's Badgers, our sports fans are nationally known for enthusiastic and loyal support.
