MGE takes responsibility to provide safe and reliable electricity and natural gas service at reasonable rates. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSCW) regulates MGE's business and sets rates.
We recognize the economic downturn has been difficult for many of our customers, and we work to control our costs.
The recently approved electric rate increase reflects:
- Installation of scrubbers on the Columbia Energy Center to significantly reduce air emissions.
- Assorted final construction costs of the Elm Road Generating Station in Oak Creek.
- Other costs such as transmission construction through ATC and long-term costs of a purchase power agreement.
The recently approved natural gas rate increase reflects an increase in costs to maintain the gas system and deliver gas to homes and businesses.
The new prices are effective Jan. 1, 2013.
Electric rates have gone up about 3.8%. Electric price increases vary by rate class. Check your specific rate class to learn how your rates have changed.
Natural gas prices related to maintaining and improving gas distribution infrastructure have increased. These costs are independent of natural gas supply charges, which are passed through without markup and fluctuate with market prices.
