MGE continues to work hard to control costs and operate efficiently as we build a reliable energy future. We are committed to helping you manage your energy use and control your utility costs.

Rate changes effective Jan. 1, 2008.

Electric rates
Electric price increases vary by rate class. The electric rate increase covers the costs of modernizing electric generation facilities, improving environmental performance and MGE customers' share of upgrading the regional electric transmission system.

Natural gas rates
Natural gas distribution prices related to maintaining and improving gas distribution infrastructure have increased. These costs are independent of natural gas supply charges, which are passed through without markup and fluctuate with market prices.

Statewide energy programs
Both natural gas and electric rates include a legislated increase in funding statewide energy efficiency and renewable energy programs (previously funded through the "Nontaxable Fixed Charge" for public benefits).

MGE doesn't profit from high natural gas prices
Unlike companies that own oil and natural gas resources, MGE and its shareholders do not profit from high energy prices. Our margin comes from the volume of gas flowing through the gas distribution system, not the commodity cost. We don’t make any money on the price of gas. In fact, MGE also is affected by sharply higher fuel costs for electric generation.

You can control costs
While you don’t have control over the price, you do have control over your energy use. Track your energy use online, and for energy-saving ideas, visit mge.com/bizenergy.
