Madison Property Management welcomes Summary Billing
Madison Property Management uses MGE Summary Billing to streamline utility bill payments for properties they manage, like the Equinox building in downtown Madison.
Like many businesses, Madison Property Management (MPM) wants to make tasks more efficient. That was the driving factor in the company's decision to try MGE's Summary Billing.
"In a short time, this free service has made a huge impact – streamlining our workload and making it easier to get our job done," said Rebecca Beckett, MPM accounts payable.
MPM manages nearly 300 owners who manage property in the Madison area. Many of those owners have multiple properties. MPM is responsible for overseeing and paying the utility bills for each property.
"When I began handling bill payment for MPM, I was surprised at the amount of MGE bills coming across my desk," Beckett said. "In two days, we received a stack of bills almost four inches high."
It took hours each month for Beckett and the bookkeepers to open each bill, enter the data, print checks and mail payment.
"I contacted MGE hoping to have more paper bills combined in fewer envelopes," Beckett said. "Instead, MGE went a step further and suggested Summary Billing, which is a major time saver."
MPM has six of its property owners signed up for Summary Billing, one with more than 30 properties.
"By converting just six owners to Summary Billing, that four-inch stack is down to less than two inches," Beckett said. "It literally cut my work in half. As we convert other larger property owners to Summary Billing, I expect to cut my time in half again. What a great return for a small investment of my time to get it set up."
"Some of our large apartment buildings will switch to include utilities in the rent," Beckett said. "That means we will need to monitor usage in the units to ensure the utility amount in the rent price is appropriate. Summary Billing provides the information we need at a glance."
