Odana Hills Groundwater Recharge Project
This project is designed to infiltrate a portion of the storm runoff from the Odana Pond watershed into the groundwater system. It is part of a two-stage water mitigation plan to offset impacts of water use at the West Campus Cogeneration Facility.
Groundwater is pumped from a well into the Yahara River during very dry periods when the river habitat could be affected by cogeneration facility water use upstream. The groundwater is recharged with stormwater infiltrated at the golf course site.
The infiltration system is expected to:
- Help reduce sediments and nutrients carried into Lake Wingra.
- Supplement the flow of springs that feed the lake.
- Demonstrate feasibility and benefits of stormwater infiltration.
