Blount Generating Station
This 100-megawatt power plant now operates on cleaner burning natural gas. MGE is modernizing its fleet of generation. Under our Energy 2015 plan, Blount discontinued burning coal at the end of 2011.
With Energy 2015, MGE has increased its wind power capacity by more than 12 times and has invested in new cleaner coal generation. These system improvements are expected to result in a 21% reduction in overall carbon dioxide emissions between 2005 and 2015.MGE participates in Green Tier
MGE is the first utility in Wisconsin to be awarded the highest participation level in Green Tier, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources' environmental leadership program.
We received the top-level designation based on our history of superior environmental performance. We will focus on environmental community partnerships and renewable energy initiatives.
ISO 14001 certified
Blount's Environmental Management System became ISO 14001 certified in October 2004. Blount successfully passed its third independent audit in 2010 to recertify the ISO 14001 status for another three-year term.
