MGE Purchases Wind Energy for Expanded Green Pricing Program

Madison, Wis., April 24, 2007—Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) will purchase 30 megawatts (MW) of wind power from Northern Iowa Windpower II to supply the company's expanded Green Pricing Program. The wind energy will be available later this year or early 2008.

The expanded Green Pricing Program will allow MGE customers who want even more renewable energy sources in their electricity mix to pay a premium to go above and beyond the state standards with new, additional wind resources. The company announced earlier this year plans to triple its renewable energy offerings in a response to customers' growing concerns about global climate change and their desire to take action through their energy use.

The wind power will be generated at the Top of Iowa II facility near Kensett, Iowa. MGE currently is seeking regulatory approval to build and own an additional 30 MW of wind energy at an adjacent facility. One megawatt supplies electricity for about 400 homes.

MGE's existing Green Pricing Program provides Wisconsin-based wind energy to about 4,300 customers. With the expanded program, over 12,000 customers can choose to receive all or part of their electricity from clean, renewable wind energy.

Northern Iowa Windpower II is a wholly owned subsidiary of Iberdrola Renewable Energies USA. Iberdrola is the largest owner of renewable energy generation in the world.

MGE generates and distributes electricity to nearly 135,000 customers in Dane County, Wisconsin, and purchases and distributes natural gas to more than 138,000 customers in seven south-central and western Wisconsin counties. MGE's roots in the Madison area date back more than 150 years.
